•    How does a custom surfboard order work?

  1. Todd will detail all aspects of your board design, model, dimensions, specs, glassing layup, construction during the custom ordering process & collaborate with you to get you dialed into the board that’s right for you. This conversation with Todd follows the 50% down payment processed with Charissa. Charissa will answer all of your preliminary questions prior to placing your custom order.
  2. Custom orders are started with a down payment of 50%. We accept VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, American Express, DEBIT/CHECK CARD, Dwolla, money orders, wire transfers, and cash.
  3. Charissa will process your down payment and e-mail you a detailed invoice & board work order showing the board specifications, and payment & shipping information.
  4. Custom orders are generally completed in 12-18+ weeks with various rush options available if needed. We will call or e-mail you when your board is nearly finished. At that time we will process final payment and arrange for pickup or shipping, depending upon your preference.
  5. Feel free to check in with Charissa at any time regarding the status of your custom order or with questions about accessories, the board, shipping, or anything else we can help you with. We offer a full line of board bags, tail pads, fins, leashes, ding repair, etc.
  6. For those who prefer the ease & convenience of checking out online, we have configured all boards in our online shop with specially selected customization options from which you can choose in detailing your custom order. You will also see an option to check a box if you want to have us follow up your order with a personal conversation between you and Todd.

•    Should I get a poly or Proxy?

It’s up to you based upon your preferences and budget. We make every board custom from concept to completion, so you have the ability to get exactly what you need. Whichever construction you choose, we do it all in-house with the highest grade materials, as well as offering some sweet upgrades. Check the Poly Upgrades Page. Our Proxy epoxy composite construction option provides increased strength, durability, and enhancements to performance in the way of flex and torque. If you have the budget, the extra $150 for the Proxy construction is well worth it. We build our Proxy boards in house from start to finish. No pop-outs or molds. •    What is the Proxy standard construction & what is the Titanium Series and/or Carbon Footprint?

We offer traditional poly/pu (polyurethane foam w/ polyester resin) construction. The next step up is Proxy epoxy (3-5+ x stronger & more durable with increased positive flex sustained throughout the life of the board, decreased weight & a slight increase in buoyancy. The Titanium II & Carbon Footprint are both upgrade versions of the base Proxy epoxy which includes a high quality virgin bead eps foam core, S-glass & epoxy resin. Titanium II is the addition of carbon/kevlar mesh for added structural reinforcement. This can be full length or configured in various patterns top and/or bottom. The Carbon Footprint is the addition of a carbon reinforced rail and is usually done on a stringerless foam core. The Carbon Footprint provides the spring-loaded self-adjusting rocker performance enhancements yielding added momentum into and out of maneuvers & also dramatically increases rail durability. The Carbon Footprint can be built with the addition of the carbon/kevlar mesh making it a Carbon Footprint/Titanium II. Optional upgrades include composite center stringer or parabolic stringers.

•    Do you vent your Proxy boards to prevent delamination?

The core material I use doesn’t require venting…

as is the case with other companies that use a recycled form of eps….thermoformed/ molded technologies i.e. surftech as well as firewire and others use  a 1lb. or 1.5 lb typically. The recycled eps is a generic foam used in many different applications traditionally outside the surfboard industry, it is much cheaper, has very low compression strength as well as a high tendency to “vent” at high temperatures or at high altitudes due to the high porosity of the foam….ultimately this will cause foam shear or delamination.

Many companies that outsource their boards, those that mass produce outside the US, those who are trying to save on construction costs, or those that don’t understand the dynamics of different foams use this kind of eps foam in their boards. Then, they have to overcome the associated problems by venting their boards, poking tiny holes all over the skin of the glass job (as is the case with using a closed cell polystyrene) or some other weird thing to try to offset complications caused by using a poor core material.

Other problems associated with a poor core material is that you will be told to get immediately out of the water if you get a ding while surfing….this is  to prevent water absorption into the board core……which can only be removed by applying a vacuum system to it….a nightmare which you should not have to worry about….(and you don’t by the way with the Proxy system).

I use a non recycled or ‘virgin bead’ epoxy foam that is made for surfboards –

and specifically for use with our unique Proxy (custom flexible epoxy custom composite construction). The use of the virgin bead epoxy core foam and its part in the entire Proxy system of construction eliminates the need for a valve or vent.

It is always advised not to keep your board consistently in extremely high temperatures for extended periods of time….and that goes for any kind of construction since it can weaken the resin-to-core-to-skin bond of the board.

Manufacturer and seller make no expressed or implied warranties. Surfing involves certain inherent risks, hazards and dangers, which can result in serious, even fatal injuries. A surfboard’s sharp edges and pointed nose can cause cuts and/or puncture wounds. If struck by a surfboard, a surfer may be rendered unconscious in the water, which could result in drowning. Even under normal conditions a surfboard may break which can increase the risk of injury. The risks inherent in the sport of surfing can be greatly reduced by: wearing protective headgear and never surfing alone. Proctor Surfboards are made by hand in our factory in Ventura, CA. They are not molded, pop-out, machine-made boards. There are various irregularities and nuances present in handmade surfboards, which adds to the authenticity of the truly handcrafted, custom designed surfboard we are proud to offer. Please do not be surprised if you find these nuances in your board. This is one of the qualities of hand craftsmanship that makes the boards truly valuable, because it reflects the heart and soul and hands-on production that went into the making of your board. If you are looking for a molded, plastic looking surfboard, keep looking. If you are looking for a custom designed, precision shaped, handcrafted surfboard, you’ve found it. Like fine art, good wine, great musical instruments, and the best fashion pieces, each of our boards is unique, one-of-a-kind, and has its own personality and character. We also offer a variety of construction options with various high grade composites, foams and resins in conjunction with the custom art & graphics available. Each medium interacting with the others will result in degrees of variance in how the final aesthetic appear (ie. epoxy resin is milkier than polyester resin and affects final aesthetic). All artwork is done by hand and will vary from one board to the next.

BY PURCHASING THIS SURFBOARD AND PARTICIPATING IN THE SPORT OF SURFING, THE PURCHASER ASSUMES AND ACCEPTS ANY AND ALL KNOW AND UNKNOWN RISKS OF INJURY OR BOARD BREAKAGE WHILE USING THIS SURFBOARD.

Care for your surfboards consists of keeping it watertight. If you do get a ding, just allow it to dry out and then repair it right. If you have one of our Proxy Epoxy, Carbon Footprint or Titanium boards, use epoxy resin only for repairs. Never leave any surfboard laying in the sun or baking in a hot car, shed or other high heat environment. If you have any questions, let us know.  Keeping your surfboard(s) in the shade and/or in a reflective board bag is always highly recommended.

Shipping/Delivery Policy
Shipping is handled by FEDEX, Stevens Global, or DHL for all domestic and international orders. In the rare occurrence when neither of these carrier will transport merchandise due to size restrictions, alternative trustworthy & proven shippers are used.
Proctor Surfboards orders are shipped from the factory/showroom at 1920 Goodyear Ave Ste A Ventura, CA 93003.
